Spring Cleaning

It is the residents responsibility to make sure their meter box is maintained. Winter insulation should be removed every spring from around your meter, and the meter box should be cleared both inside and around the outside of the meter box. This give you a chance to see if any issues have risen over the winter months, such as slow leaks.  If you see anything that concerns you please notify us so we can investigate your issue.

Another good reason for checking your meter box every spring is that meter boxes should be visable at all times so that they can be easily located and accessed.  If not regularly maintained, they can get camouflaged under a layer of soil or overgrown vegetation making it difficult to manually check readings or access them for time-sensitive repairs. If a resident fails to unearth or clear out their own meter box and a DVAWC employee is required to do it for them, that resident will be assessed a $25 fee.

Remember as you prepare to plant and do yardwork this spring that any changes in the property that adversely affect the meter, or its ability to be accessed by DVAWC, becomes the responsibility of the property owner. Please plan your landscaping and fencing jobs accordingly.  Thank you!
